Weekend In Pictures

Off to Manhattan

The Hudson Hotel

Beautiful lobby

Terrace
The Library Bar: Extremely swanky & chic. Warning: $$$$ Drinks.

Basso 56: Authentic Italian food, and coming from a true Italian, this is the place to go.

Soulive performing at Brooklyn Bowl: Met some of our friends for a night of fried chicken, bowling, and jamming. What's better than that?

Lunch on Saturday was at Bar Boulud, a French Bistro in the upper west side. It was chic yet oddly cozy inside, which I love. The weekend brunch menu consisted of traditional breakfast foods with a french twist, refreshing cocktails, and typical brasserie style dishes. Bar Boulud did us well...A+.

Mike and I both ordered Croque Madame's. O u t s t a n d i n g. I cannot believe I have been missing out all these years.
 Shopping in SoHo before dinner.

We ate dinner at Cafetasia, our go-to gem for tasty and affordable Thai food in a lively atmosphere. Guaranteed happy& full tummy.

Last but not least, we saw La Cage Aux Folles on broadway, thanks to Mike's wonderfully generous parents! In addition to our incredibly close seats, the actors were unbelievable and the show was hysterical! It was such a fun-filled experience. The costumes were stunning and the actors were effervescent, it was such a treat.

The whole weekend was great, I love exploring all that NYC has to offer! More adventures to come...

Looks I Love

Braids and messy buns are so simple and feminine. They can really dress up an outfit without looking like a stiff 80's prom up-do. One morning instead of reaching for the straightener, why not try one of these looks!

wine pairing..for those who really care about their veggies

Aren't wine nights the best? Old friends, new friends, loved ones, delicious home cooked meals, exaggerated stories, intense games, and of course the vino. Those times are especially cherished during the spring and summer months, because let's face it, that night I described just became way more appealing being outdoors on a warm summer night.
With that said, not everyone is a fan of indulging in a massive juicy steak when it is 70+ degrees outside and charades is next on the list of games. Sometimes a lighter meal is the way to go. I've realized that many people do not know how to pair vegetables with wine; so here is a wonderful list of veggie/wine pairing from Williams-Sonoma, since most people are used to pairing wine with meat or fish.
Avocados
To cut through the fatness of avocados, try a grassy Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand or California, or an Italian Verdicchio.

Beans and Lentils
Serve a fruity young red, such as Syrah/Shiraz, a top French Beaujolais or a California Merlot. For white, try an Alsatian Riesling or an Italian Pinot Grigio.
Corn
Serve a buttery California Chardonnay.
Eggplant
Serve a dry rosé or a light red wine, such as a Dolcetto from Italy or a medium-weight Chianti.
Hummus
This chickpea dip is best with a crisp, acidic wine, perhaps a dry Chenin Blanc from California or an Albariño from Spain.
Mushrooms
Serve with Pinot Noir from California, Merlot from New York state or a good French Beaujolais.
Olives
When serving olives as an appetizer, try a glass of slightly chilled Fino sherry from Spain or a California sparkling brut rosé.
Onions
An onion tart or onion soup is perfect with an unoaked white wine, such as Oregon Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire or even a mid-range Chablis from France.
Truffles
With black truffles, open a top-quality Champagne, a California sparkling wine, or a Syrah from California or the Rhône in France. With white truffles, serve a good French red Burgundy or an Italian Nebbiolo, such as Barolo.
Enjoy  !

The Situation Room

While I was driving the other day I had an epiphany. I’m not entirely sure whether the sunlight hit me in just the right way, or I had the perfect stage of dehydration, or my frustration with driving on the Merritt Parkway spawned such a great idea (that loud sound you hear is me patting myself on the back). Sorry I’ve yet to grasp the power of subtlety. Nevertheless, I thought this would be a good attempt to get people commenting on posts. So for now the aim is to make this post, “The Situation Room,” a weekly stalwart. Each week, we’ll post a new question, usually music related, but in reality it may be tangentially related to anything in the here and now of pop culture. This is a test, responses are required! Actually they’re not, but hopefully we’ll pique your interest just enough that you’ll decide to chime in with your opinion. Unlike my law school classes, all opinions are welcome here!

For this week, I thought we’d try something simple. Musically speaking, what is your guilty pleasure? What is that one artist, song, or album on your iPod or iTunes that makes you cringe when friends see, or you’d be embarrassed to admit you actually like. Even though I like me some JT, Amy Winehouse, Nelly Furtado, and think Toxic (yes that one) has an amazing beat, my answer was not obvious to anyone other than me. But, it was actually surprisingly easy: I have an addiction to the Presidents of the United States of America! No not Obama, Bush, or Taft, but the ones that wrote the American classics “Lump” and “Peaches.” I listen to them at least once a week. Everyone should have more Presidents in their lives. You can never listen to “Naked and Famous” enough!

So please, offer up your guilty musical pleasure for anonymous judgment by everyone on the interwebs. And if you have suggestions for future installments of The Situation Room, please leave them in the comments.

Looks I Love

A few years ago, former MTV reality star Lauren Conrad launched a high end clothing line. After being on the market for no more than a few months, the line sadly failed. She then came out with a more affordable 'teen' line at Kohl's stores nationwide, which is only okay. HOWEVER, I recently discovered that there is hope for this struggling fashion designer. Lauren Conrad's new line Paper Crown features some trendy basics like leather shorts, silk blouses in blush tones, slouchy blazers, tight cocktail dresses, tiered ruffled maxi dresses, and belted dresses. The prices and locations are TBA but I'm hoping this is the real deal because I'm really digging some of these pieces!
